MENTAL & PHYSICAL ERRORS THAT MUST BE AVOIDED & BAD HABITS THAT MUST BE BROKEN
- Poor under-water pushoffs. Must streamline.
- Stopping in lane or walls to let another pass you...or for any reason.
- Lack of lane courtesy on finishes.
- Passive passing in lane (must pass slower athletes).
- Pulling with top arm off turns and wall pushoffs .
- Breathing in or out of turns.
- Failure to finish repeats like races. Race the finishes.
- Failure to power kick off every wall.
- Legal and perfect turns for all strokes.
- Leaving the pool during training to use the restroom.
- Lack of enthusiasm.
- Swimming to get to the finish instead of swimming to get better.
- Not finishing the set. Stopping early.
- Talking while coaches are speaking to the group.
- Failure to keep eye contact with coaches while they talk.
- Negative facial expressions and looks.
- Negative comments.
- Grabbing lane lines.
- Pulling when you should be kicking.
- Doing it your way.
- Failure to practice with tenacity and and aggressiveness.
- Failure to complete warm-ups and warm-downs.
- Double breathing during swim or turns.
- Gum chewing during practice or meets.
- Failure to come to practice sessions for whatever reason.
