MENTAL & PHYSICAL ERRORS THAT MUST BE AVOIDED & BAD HABITS THAT MUST BE BROKEN

  1. Poor under-water pushoffs. Must streamline.
  2. Stopping in lane or walls to let another pass you...or for any reason.
  3. Lack of lane courtesy on finishes.
  4. Passive passing in lane (must pass slower athletes).
  5. Pulling with top arm off turns and wall pushoffs .
  6. Breathing in or out of turns.
  7. Failure to finish repeats like races. Race the finishes.
  8. Failure to power kick off every wall.
  9. Legal and perfect turns for all strokes.
  10. Leaving the pool during training to use the restroom.
  11. Lack of enthusiasm.
  12. Swimming to get to the finish instead of swimming to get better.
  13. Not finishing the set. Stopping early.
  14. Talking while coaches are speaking to the group.
  15. Failure to keep eye contact with coaches while they talk.
  16. Negative facial expressions and looks.
  17. Negative comments.
  18. Grabbing lane lines.
  19. Pulling when you should be kicking.
  20. Doing it your way.
  21. Failure to practice with tenacity and and aggressiveness.
  22. Failure to complete warm-ups and warm-downs.
  23. Double breathing during swim or turns.
  24. Gum chewing during practice or meets.
  25. Failure to come to practice sessions for whatever reason.
